Common questions

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no BudgetSafe account and no BudgetSafe server. Install the app and start.

Can BudgetSafe see my bank account?

No. BudgetSafe never connects to your bank. You add spending yourself, or import a statement file you downloaded from your bank. The file is read on your phone.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your phone, in an encrypted database. Phone backups to iCloud or Google don’t include it, so nothing leaks that way. To move phones, use BudgetSafe’s own encrypted backup.

How do I move to a new phone?

Make an encrypted backup in Settings → Backup, then restore it on the new phone with your passphrase. If you have Premium, automatic backup to your own iCloud or Google Drive can do this for you.

I’ve forgotten my backup passphrase.

Use the recovery key you saved when you set up backup. We can’t reset a passphrase or open a backup for you: we never see either, which is what keeps your data private.

How do I delete all my data?

Settings → Delete all data, then type DELETE to confirm. This wipes everything on the phone, including scheduled reminders. If you use automatic backup, you can delete the cloud copies in the same step. Uninstalling the app also removes its data from the phone.

How do I cancel BudgetSafe Premium?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google, so you cancel them there. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Is BudgetSafe financial advice?

No. BudgetSafe is a budgeting tool. It helps you see your own numbers; it doesn’t recommend financial products or decisions.
